Cultural Literacy: Riot Act

Today is July 20. In Colombia, it is Independence Day in Colombia, which commemorates the beginning of the independence movement in that nation in 1810. Today is Special Olympics Day, so I tip my hat to my friends and students who participate in those games. It’s also National Moon Day, which commemorates the first moon landing in 1969. Finally, according to my On This Date book (which has been considerably less than reliable) today is apparently the anniversary of the British Riot Act of 1715, though many websites give August 1 as the day this law took effect.

Whatever date the Riot Act took force, today seems like as good a day as any to post this Cultural Literacy worksheet on the Riot Act.
