Jocular (adj)

Today is July 10. On this day in 1943, tennis legend Arthur Ashe was born in Richmond, Virginia. Today is Independence Day in the Bahamas. Mind your bare feet today, because it is Don’t Step on a Bee Day. Finally, it is the birthday (born in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1834) of James Abbott McNeill Whistler, who is known especially for his painting of his mother.

Here is a context clues worksheet on the adjective jocular. Not a word in particularly common usage these days, but a good word to know nonetheless.
